Gross Value Added in Agriculture, Hunting, Forestry and Fishing

Agriculture, Hunting, Forestry and Fishing (AHFF)

AHFF increases

The AHFF sector, which accounted for 10.3 percent of GDP, grew by 1.6 percent in the first quarter of 2015 or 1.0 percentage point higher than its past year’s growth of 0.6 percent. The Agriculture and Fishing subsectors registered increases, while the Forestry subsector exhibited a decline.

The top contributors to the increase of AHFF sector were Poultry, Livestock, Other crops, and Agricultural activities and services.

Agriculture accelerates

Agriculture subsector, which shared 83.2 percent of the entire AHFF sector, grew more than double its first quarter 2014 record, from 1.2 percent to 2.5 percent.

The Poultry and Livestock subsectors, posting 11.9 percent and 13.0 percent shares respectively to AHFF in Q1 2015, were the top contributors to growth in the agriculture subsector, increasing by 5.4 percent and 3.2 percent, respectively.  Other crops subsector came third, with a 5.0 percent growth, followed by Agricultural activities and services with a 5.1 percent growth.

Among major crops, the top contributors to growth were as follows: Corn, Palay, Banana, Cassava and Pineapple.

Forestry descends

The Forestry subsector posted a negative growth of 3.9 percent in Q1 2015, a reversal from a 17.6 percent growth in the same period last year.

Fishing declines

After a remarkable increase of 4.2 percent in the previous quarter, the Fishing subsector posted a 2.6 percent decline in Q1 2015 marking a two-year successive first quarter decline in the industry.
